What defines expressive drums? The answer to the question is drums that give you the sound you need, whenever you need it.
Tonal requirements vary among drummers, differ with dynamics, and change, from band to band, song to song, moment to moment. With the Absolute Hybrid Series drums, Yamaha has succeeded in addressing this, with a drum set that possesses an extraordinary degree of expressive power, allowing drummers to pursue a level of expression that perhaps they've not experience before in their other drums. These drums offer a wide dynamic range that allows them to respond accurately to each and every stroke, and follow changes in dynamics, nuance, and touch, letting you play what you want to play.
The new addition of the metal snare lineup to the Recording Custom series represents the addition of Yamaha’s finest snare drums, using Steve Gadd's valuable input to its maximum. It adds a superb consistency, allowing drummers to fully utilize the sound functionality of the kit.
Dubbed the “Swamp Dawg,” this multi-faceted drum is a versatile addition to the Full Range series. The deep 8"x14" mahogany shell, when tuned low, creates a swampy, dark, throaty, “low-fi” timbre reminiscent of historic recordings from the seventies. At mid and higher tunings, the Swamp Dawg cuts with saturating attack and full body. The 6-ply mahogany shell, 8 tube lugs and triple flange hoops work together to let the drum open up and breath while the 42-strand snare wires and double-ply, coated Remo® Emperor batter head give the drum extra bite and playability.
Brooklyn, New York and Gretsch Drums share an inseparable legacy that is reflected in the Gretsch Brooklyn Series. Proudly hand-crafted in Gretsch’s Ridgeland, SC, USA factory, Gretsch Brooklyn produces a sound that is immediately recognizable, yet distinctively reinvented.
Brass shells create a pleasantly warm tone that naturally bridges the gap between wood and steel snare drums. The cutting power of metal is present but balanced out by the dark complexity of brass. Gretsch takes the classic recipe one step further and applies a hammering pattern to the shell. This naturally reduces overtones and creates a powerful, focused sound. The Gretsch hammered brass snare drums are finished with Die-cast hoops, REMO drum heads, adjustable throw-offs and fixed butt plates.
One of the primary reasons Ludwig is "The Most Famous Name On Drums" is the legendary Black Beauty Snare Drum. The drum is constructed of a single sheet of brass that is machine drawn into a seamless beaded shell. However, due to their truly unique and difficult manufacturing process, only a very limited number of Black Beauties are available each year from Ludwig USA.
With a choice of two strainer options (P85 Supra-Phonic or P86 Millennium), the Black Beauty responds with excellent sensitivity at all volumes. Choose from Imperial or tube lugs, die cast or triple-flange hoops and a smooth or hand hammered shell.
A true American original, the Black Beauty provides a warm, round metallic tone that is often imitated, but never duplicated.
